Please remember that only the votes on our poll below are counted. Ratings and comments on YouTube do not count. Official interns will be announced on or around Feb. 1, 2010. Check out the videos below and vote for your favorite! The four candidates with the most votes will move on to a week of water ambassadorship and haute couture. Good luck to everyone!

After a week of urgent calls and logistical hurdles, FIJI Water is now able to donate more than 136,000 liters of water to the victims of the earthquakes in Haiti. Given the disrupted infrastructure throughout the country, our biggest challenge was coordinating the transportation of the much-needed water. Thanks to the United States Military, specifically the Fort Bragg base in North Carolina, we are now assured that the water will reach those who need it so desperately.

When Fort Bragg’s chief of supply called to offer transportation for our water, we jumped at the opportunity. Within 48 hours, eight trucks carrying 150 pallets of FIJI Water arrived at Fort Bragg. The water is being prepared for shipment now; it will be air-dropped and marked “For Humanitarian Aid Only” — which means the water will go directly to the people of Haiti.

We’d like to give a special thanks to the dedicated U.S. Military officers for their time and support.

Take a look at some pictures of the water delivery to Haiti on our Facebook page.
We are committed to donating money to organizations that were on the ground in Haiti prior to the disaster and that will continue to help the people after the initial emergency response is over. One group with whom we are working is Partners in Health (PIH), who has had a presence in Haiti for nearly 25 years and is one of the largest non-governmental health care providers in the country.

To learn more about Partners in Health or donate to them, please visit www.pih.org.

We are also working on donating water and have been researching how to both transport and distribute it as quickly as possible. We are coordinating with various organizations on the ground in Haiti and have offered product as soon as they are able to accept it. We will post updates on our progress as we receive more information.

FIJI Water attended Art Basel Miami beach, a prestigious art exhibit held in Miami, Florida. There was a magnificent selection of top galleries with special exhibitions, parties and crossover events featuring music, architecture and design.

It’s no secret that FIJI Water is a huge supporter of the arts, so sponsoring the prestigious Art Basel Miami Beach was a no-brainer. Not only was there a magnificent selection of top galleries throughout the four-day affair but also special exhibitions and parties that showcased architecture and music. As the sister event to the original, Swiss-based Art Basel (often called the “Olympics of the Art World”), the Miami Beach event is easily the United States’ most important art show. Since its stateside inception in 2002, the event has attracted a sophisticated and eclectic crowd, ranging from art connoisseur Steve Wynn (rumored to have purchased a Rembrandt) and buddy Sylvester Stallone to the casually dressed Lance Armstrong, who casually chatted up the crowd in a baseball cap and jeans.

More than 250 art galleries from all over the world showcased their art. Take a peek at a few standout pieces from the affair:

Crazed Lion Sculpture at Art Basel, Miami Beach

The bold colors along with the fierce expression on the lion’s face makes this piece stand out.

Photo of Stretched Woman at Art Basel, Miami Beach

No, your computer monitor settings haven’t gone wonky. This stretched-out art piece — Evan Penny’s “Female Stretched” — was created that way. We also heard that it sold for $300,000 on opening day.

David LaChappelle’s “Archangel Michael” at Art Basel, Miami Beach

Lastly, this tribute piece was created by David LaChapelle, celebrity photographer and artist. It’s called “Archangel Michael” and isn’t a real picture of Jackson but of a lookalike.

We were thrilled to be part of this esteemed event and look forward to next year.

Can you think of anything better than the scent of warm, freshly baked cookies? We can’t. That’s why we’re going to be at the first annual Holiday Cookie Swap and Bake-Off this Saturday, December 19, from 1pm-3pm, at the Bowery Poetry Club in NYC, to benefit the Lower Eastside Girls Club.

The event is based on an old-fashioned cookie swap, where friends or family members bake a big batch of cookies, then come together and divvy them up. For a small donation of $15, guests will receive a tin to fill with cookies priced at $.50 and up. All proceeds will support entrepreneurial training programs at the Girls Club.

There will be 25 bakers at the event, showing off their most delectable cookies. A panel of celebrity bakers and chefs will also be judging and tasting, including Gina DePalma from Babbot; Myriam Eberhardt from DBGB Kitchen & Bar; Nichelle Stephens, Co-Editor of Cupcakes Take the Cake; and Sue Torres from Suenos. The winner will receive a “Baker’s Basket” of amazing kitchen goodies valued at more than $600, donated from Whole Foods Market, Russ and Daughters, Ghirardelli Chocolate, King Arthur Flour, Mionetto Prosecco, and, of course, FIJI Water.

Tickets are available online at The Girls Club website, or at the door. The organization aims to help girls and young women from the ages of 8-23, grow, learn, have fun, and develop the confidence in themselves to make a difference in the world. By delivering strong arts, literacy, science, health, and leadership programs, the organization provides girls with the vision to plan — and the tools to build — their future.

As part of our long-standing sustainability commitment, we’ve joined 1% for the Planet, a global alliance of companies who pledge 1% of their annual sales directly to non-profit organizations focused on sustainability.

1% for the Planet’s mission is to build and support an alliance of businesses financially committed to creating a healthy planet. Currently, it’s a global movement of 1,116 companies that donate 1% of their sales to a network of 1,877 environmental organizations worldwide… and growing. We’re incredibly honored to be the first premium artesian bottled water company to join 1% and one of the alliance’s top five brand members based on annual revenue and environmental contributions.

Becoming a member is part of our ongoing effort to help protect the environment. Among a number of initiatives, we’re working to preserve the Sovi Basin, the largest remaining lowland rainforest in the South Pacific, a project that will keep 10 million tons of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere. We’ve also teamed up with the people of Fiji and Conservation International to work on our major reforestation project. Planting of the first 250 acres began in October 2009 and another 1,000 acres will be planted over the coming years. Here’s a video highlighting our Sovi Basin project:

If you know us, you know that we’re passionate about doing well by doing good. We know as a business, we’re responsible for giving back to the communities where we live and work. We couldn’t be more proud of our pledge to 1% for the Planet.
