5/21/09|Out and About: Art in Chicago

young-modern-003With the late arrival of spring the weather in Chicago has been beautiful, and coincidentally so have been the events, literally.† The city continues to bloom into a Mecca for beautiful architecture and artistic talent, and this month we’re all celebrating it.

‘Young Modern’: To herald the grand opening of the newly renovated modern wing, the Art Institute of Chicago hosted more than 1,200 young artists and art enthusiasts to a preview soiree complete with DJs, champagne, and, of course, FIJI Water.

Chic young Chicagoans cheerfully toured newly curated galleries, danced in the upstairs salon, and mingled with friends in the expansive lobby.† Fantastic fashion presentations given by Marisa Swystun and Michelle Barone were only enhanced by the presence of large bottles of FIJI Water, everyone’s favorite accessory.

‘Driehaus Awards for Fashion Excellence’: For the eighth year in a row, philanthropist Richard Driehaus hosted nearly 400 of his closest friends to a charity event in benefit of student designers from area art schools.

The night began with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres set among Driehaus’ collection of rare vintage cars, and later involved a fashion show featuring the fantastic and outlandish creations of 25 students.† FIJI Water had the best view in the house, featured alongside the runway on VIP tables and seats, and FIJI Water recycling bins flanked the exit to make sure guests helped to ‘complete our cycle.’

‘Project Art Chicago: Escape the Ordinary’: On Friday, May 22nd, Project Art at the Climax Lounge in Chicago promises to be a ground-breaking display of the finest creations young Chicago has to offer.† Curated by Tristan Hummel, the event will feature the paintings, photography, sculpture, video, music, and breakdancing of the area’s most talented young artists.† FIJI Water is proud to be the exclusive bottled water of the series, which will continue monthly throughout the summer.† Everyone is welcome to join this free event, and more information can be found at www.yelp.com.
