Named for David Fairchild, the Jazz-age globetrotter who was one of America’s great plant “explorers,” this lush 83 acre park is a treasure trove of rare and exotic plants like cycads, cacti, ¬†palmettos, and orchids, not to mention more than 100 species of birds. The short tram tour is fun–but if you’re more the DIY-type, a relaxing meander among the giant bromeliads and baobabs is also a horizon-expanding escape.
