Named for David Fairchild, the Jazz-age globetrotter who was one of America’s great plant “explorers,” this lush 83 acre park is a treasure trove of rare and exotic plants like cycads, cacti,  palmettos, and orchids, not to mention more than 100 species of birds. The short tram tour is fun–but if you’re more the DIY-type, a relaxing meander among the giant bromeliads and baobabs is also a horizon-expanding escape.
