Whether you are hopping on a plane for work or finally taking your dream vacation – travel time does not have to translate into extra baggage on your backside. While vacation is the perfect time to relax, unwind and indulge your epicurean palette – it can also be a time to be active and stay in the fit zone. Follow these few tips and avoid turning your pleasure-filled get away into a rendezvous with regret.

Plan Ahead

Most likely your hotel will have a perfectly adequate fitness center but your “vacation state of mind” may thwart any attempt to explore it. Make sure you have a back-up plan – pack a few easy-to-store workout tools like resistance tubes or dyna-bands. Do a quickie upper body workout in the morning and end the day with standing squats and a few crunches for your core and you’ll be ready for a good night’s sleep.

Walk and Stairs

One of the easiest ways to get your cardio in is to never step foot in an elevator. Always take advantage of the stairs and you will not only get your heart rate up – you will burn extra calories and strengthen your leg muscles. There is no better time to explore your surroundings by foot than while you are in a new exotic destination. Put on your best walking shoes and turn your sightseeing adventure into a great aerobic workout.

Try Something New

Traveling is a wonderful opportunity to try something new and different. Big cities often offer unique fitness classes that are not found anywhere else in the world. Step outside of your comfort zone and go try the newest latest fitness craze taking the city by storm. Who knows – you might love it so much you could start your own franchise when you get back home!

Get Your Aqua On!

Remember – where there is water . . . there is a great resistance workout – all you have to do is dive in. When you get tired of floating around on your back soaking up the sun – jump in with both feet and do a mini water workout. Swim a few laps in between resistance moves and you can experience an awesome interval workout with zero stress on the joints.

Finally, it is more important to stay hydrated when you are on-the-go and working up a sweat than when you are sedentary. Make sure to take plenty of cold FIJI Water with you to keep your thirst quenched and your body fully equipped for whatever adventure may come your way.
