One of the causes we love to support at FIJI Water is Best Buddies International, an organization that promotes opportunities for intellectually disabled individuals.
The twelfth annual Audi Best Buddies Challenge: Hyannis Port charity bike ride happens June 4 in Boston. As part of the celebration, for the months of May and June, $1 per case of FIJI Water sold at Stop & Shop, Big Y, Demoulas, Roche Bros, Shaws, and Tedeschi’s in New England will be contributed to Best Buddies International. To find one of these retailers near you, please see our store locator.
That’s how we’re helping out. But if you live in the Boston-area, or are an avid cycler, we strongly encourage you to participate in the ride itself. It is a fantastic event and a great time.
The Hyannis Port ride is probably one of the most well-organized and fun bike rides in the country, charitable or otherwise. The ride itself is part of a weekend of festivities, events, and camaraderie.
Beginning at the famous JFK Presidential Library and Museum on the South Shore of Boston, the 100-mile ride winds through some of Massachusetts’s most beautiful scenery, crossing over the Bourne Bridge into Cape Cod and finishing up at Craigsville Beach in Hyannis Port. There are also 50- and 25-mile rides and a 5K walk for those who prefer to show their support on foot. View the course maps.
All of the ride options at the Audi Best Buddies Challenge are point-to-point with four fully stocked rest stops and multiple support vehicles spread over the route (with restrooms!). Transportation for riders and their bikes to and from the finish and start lines and hotels is taken care of, and there are discount rates at local hotels.
Each participant is assigned a Challenge Coach who helps them with their training regimen and fundraising plan to help them meet their goals, both athletic and charitable.
At the finish, riders enjoy hot showers, professional massages, and plenty of food and refreshments.
And then the celebration really starts: Everyone heads over to the famous lobster bake and beach side buffet, followed by a concert by Natasha Bedingfield.
The mission of Best Buddies is to establish a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Founded in 1989 by Anthony Kennedy Shriver, Best Buddies is a vibrant, international organization that has grown from one original chapter to more than 1,500 middle school, high school, and college campuses across the country and internationally. Best Buddies programs engage participants in each of the 50 United States. Best Buddies has accredited international programs on six continents, with additional country programs under active development.
