Teghan Collins is one of four interns working with FIJI Water at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2012 (September 8-15, 2011).
The first word that comes to mind when asked about all my experiences at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is “grateful.” This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and I cannot thank FIJI Water enough for the opportunity!
Coming from Atlanta, I never thought in a million years I’d be anywhere near Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Sitting in the front row (as a seat filler, of course) at shows such as BCBG Max Azria and Monique Lhuillier were, until this week, only a daydream. Just being in the same room as some of my favorite celebrities and many of fashion’s elite is a very humbling experience. It fuels my ambitions and determination to one day become equally successful.
At the beginning of the week, I got a taste of how celebs feel when the FIJI Water interns were styled by a personal shopper (probably one of the most awesome ways to shop). Thanks to FIJI Water and the lovely stylists at Topshop, we received two full outfits, including shoes and accessories for Fashion Week. #Winning! Noelle, our boss (“Hey, girl! Hey!”), had a great idea to let us have our own style this year. As long as we kept it chic and fashionable and incorporated FIJI Water’s signature blue into the ensemble, Topshop was our playground! (Shoutout to my Topshop styling angel, Melanie.)
I’ve met so many people and will never forget this internship. How many people can say they gave Kelly Cutrone a piece of gum, sat in the Vogue Italia editors’ seat, handed Susan Sarandon a FIJI Water, and was within ten feet of Mr. Valentino himself? I can, and I feel honored and blessed to be able to do so.
If I could give one piece of advice to those trying to break down the fashion industry’s diamond-encrusted door, it would be: “NEVER, ever, ever give up!” If I did, I would have missed out on Betsey Johnson’ s cartwheel and split at the end of her show.
Thank you, FIJI Water!
