Marco Garcia is one of four fashion interns working with FIJI Water at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2012 (September 8-15, 2011).
New York Fashion Week has turned out to be everything we’ve ever imagined it to be. The editors, the photographers, the models, the designers, and of course the clothes are all here inside the tent at Lincoln Center, and having access to it all has been beyond amazing.
Walking in and out of the tent at Lincoln Center is definitely a privilege. Onlookers — many of them secretly hoping for a chance to step indoors — stand outside the tent, hoping to catch a glimpse of someone they recognize, whether it be a socialite, a fashion blogger, or perhaps someone with a killer outfit. Others are looking to snap your picture and feature you on their website.
During the first official day of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, the interns (pictured above after styling in FIJI blue at Top Shop: Kristie, Marco, Teghan, and Gabriel) and the FIJI Water team met inside the main tent at 9 a.m. to help at the BCBG Max Azria runway show. The crowds were huge and the photographers were on their toes snapping picture after picture. Once everyone was seated, we were allowed inside. Seconds before the show started, Teghan and I were escorted by one of the show coordinators to seats on the floor. They were not just any floor seats but FRONT ROW seats! We were both in heaven! To see a picture of a designer’s outfit is one thing, but to actually see it as it walks down a runway on a gorgeous six-foot-tall model definitely makes you appreciate the details and all the hard work that goes into its creation. The way a piece flows and the colors chosen to tie a collection together bring a designer’s creation to life.
The first day of MBFW has been by far the highlight of my experience with FIJI Water. We are only in the first half of Fashion Week, so who knows what other amazing opportunities will arise in the next few days or what people we will meet, but all I know is that I am 100% ready!
