Game, Sip, Match: 2011 Rogers Cup Tournament

FIJI Water is gearing up for its return as the official water of the 130th annual Rogers Cup. An ATP Masters 1000 level tournament, Premier WTA tournament, and U.S. Open Series event, the Rogers Cup returns to Toronto and Montréal from August 5 to 14.

New Virtually Combined Format

Yes, folks, it’s that time of year again! This year promises to be very exciting, with the tournament taking on a new “virtually combined” format. No, that doesn’t mean men and women will be squaring off against one another, but that for the first time the men’s and women’s tournaments will be played simultaneously in Montréal and Toronto, offering fans in one venue the opportunity to view matches from the other. Watching Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal play at the same time? Now that’s a match made in tennis heaven.

Must-See Matches

Speaking of Rafael, the men’s field has drawn a lot of attention so far this season, with Nadal and Roger Federer serving up competition for the number-one spot, chasing recent Wimbledon-champ Novak Djokovic. Needless to say, all three will be vying for the 2011 Rogers Cup at the Uniprix Stadium in Montréal with utmost determination. And of course, there’s two-time Rogers Cup champion Andy Murray (2009, 2010), who will defend his title and aim for a three-peat.

As for the women’s field, the top 25 players in the world will hit the Rexall Centre courts in Toronto, including former world number-one and 2001 Rogers Cup champ Serena Williams; 2011 French Open winner Li Na; 2011 Wimbledon runner-up Maria Sharapova; current number one and last year’s Rogers Cup champion Caroline Wozniacki; and many others. The tournament will also feature the usual doubles tournament, which will run alongside the singles tournament and will feature some very interesting duos, such as the all-Serbian team of Novak Djokovic and Janko Tipsarevic; Andy Murray and brother Jamie Murray; and the French pairing of Richard Gasquet and Gilles Simon. Oh, and let’s not forget about the best doubles duo in the world: the Bryan brothers.

Legendary Tennis

As if that weren’t enough, the Rogers Cup will also host the Legends Cup, a mini-tournament played between ATP Hall of Famers Jon McEnroe, Andre Agassi, Jim Courier, and Michael Chang during the final weekend of the tournament (August 12 to 14).

The tournament will conclude on August 14, when all four championship matches (Men’s/Women’s Doubles, Men’s/Women’s Singles) will be played.

As the tournament’s official water, FIJI Water will be there hydrating both players and fans throughout. Find tickets, tournament schedules, and more information on RogersCup.com.
