Announcing the February 2011 New York Fashion Week Internship Contest

The first round of the internship contest is now closed. Thank you to everyone who entered — we will be contacting the first round winners soon!

Fashion Week is fast approaching, which means it’s time for the FIJI Water New York Fashion Week Internship Contest.

For five seasons, FIJI Water has brought our interns to the center of the fashion action, and this February will be no exception — especially now that FIJI Water is the official water of the main event at Lincoln Center, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

We’re looking for four energetic interns to join us behind the scenes in New York City February 9-17, 2011. Details, contest rules, and dates are below.

A Valuable Experience and an Unforgettable Week in Fashion

Interested in fashion, event management, or PR? Add a stylish boost to your resume with a week on fashion’s frontlines. As a FIJI Water intern you will rub elbows with key fashion insiders and see the inner workings of the business up-close.

Interns not only have opportunities to distribute FIJI Water at shows from established designers like Betsey Johnson and Donna Karan to newer designers like Yigal Azrouel, but can sometimes attend these shows on their own. September 2010 Fashion Week interns even went backstage at shows for Christian Siriano and Charlotte Ronson. Not to mention all the celebrity sightings and more fabulous fashion than you can shake a $10,000 handbag at.

But it’s not all glamour — you’ll also be hefting crates of FIJI Water, representing our brand at Lincoln Center, and generally working hard (while learning a lot).

“There is nothing quite like having a personal pass into a venue full of the fashion elite…I would definitely recommend entering the contest to anyone interested in entering the fashion industry,” said Jenny Eisenberg, a September 2010 intern.

We’re looking for people with just the right mix of friendliness, enthusiasm, and passion for fashion. Think you have what it takes? Then read on:

How to Enter:

Comments submitted on Facebook or anywhere other than in the comments section of this blog post will not be considered.
  • Make sure you include your email address so we can contact you if you’re chosen as one of our finalists. If we can’t contact you through the email address you provide, we can’t include you as a finalist.

Then What?

  • Week of December 27, 2010: We’ll choose the final eight (8) candidates, who will then create their very own video in which they answer three (3) specific questions to test their fashion enthusiasm and knowledge.

Fashion is forever changing and evolving, it is something an individual creates with a little mix of everything – style, character, and culture, with a touch of personality and when someone can show that in the way they dress they have ‘good taste’. Part of having good taste also means being confidence and knowing how to express their feelings that is carrying on internally, emotionally, and mentally within a person mind in fashion. Having ‘good taste’ is always a complement. It means that a person style stands out and is admired by a lot of people. Some words that describes someone who has ‘good taste’ are: stylish, current, classy, elegant, modish, chic, unique, open, up-to-the-minute with the season trends and knows how to distinguish the good of something from the bad. Someone with ‘good taste’ is also a trendsetter and can influence people of all age, race and gender.

As an art school student my work is constantly scrutinized and critiqued. A project I may think is my best work could get less than rave reviews from my professor. Similarly, fashion is the same way. You may think you are wearing an amazing outfit but the people on the street could also be your “professors” and feel much differently. Good taste in fashion is a lot like art—it’s very subjective. In art, it’s easy to loose your aesthetic when you are concerned with pleasing others and how they will perceive your work. Fashion is very similar because sometimes people are so concerned with how others will view them that they loose their own personal style. While sometimes it can be useful for anyone to receive feedback or inspirations form others, ultimately it’s important whether it be in art or in fashion that it is a reflection of you. For me, when I think of good taste in fashion I also think of art. It means constantly being inspired staying innovative and fresh so that you never bore yourself. Having good taste in fashion does not necessarily mean wearing the most expensive clothes but it means owning whatever you’re wearing as if they are the most expensive clothes. Good taste in fashion means taking risks, and wearing what you want regardless of whether it’s trendy or cool. Ultimately for me, good taste in fashion is having confidence in everything you wear because that speaks louder than the clothes itself.

You’re never fully dressed without a smile… Oh, wouldn’t it be great if a smile was all you needed to make for a stylish self? Key element, nonetheless (especially paired with Chanel’s Shanghai Red Lipstick). What does ‘good taste’ in fashion mean to me? Good taste is a quality that certain people possess. In a way, you are either born with it or you are not. Of course, you can acquire better taste with time; surroundings, friends, and celebrities, are all high influences. Either way, good taste is timeless. It doesn’t matter if it’s a newly surfacing trend, such as Christian Siriano’s hunka-dunka heels, timeless vintage such as Narciso Rodriguez’s asymmetrical dresses and fitted blazers, or a trendy blast-from-the-past much like Anna Sui’s bellbottoms and fringe. Fashionable taste doesn’t require a closet full of designer brands and an endless supply of money. It simply requires having an eye for things that others would never consider. Fashionable taste is what sets you apart. It’s the innate ability to mix-and-match, accessorize, and create style out of randomness. Good taste doesn’t stop at the exterior. It’s important to remember that confidence, individuality, personality, and creativity are all true components. People will remember your fashion choices because of its timeless, effortless, and classic look. Strut your stuff, stay true to yourself, and feel free to leave your Shanghai Red lip mark everywhere you go.

I believe that “good taste” in fashion is a lifestyle. A person that has good taste in fashion is able to translate their good taste in clothing to their daily life. Of course, a person with good fashion taste is someone that exudes their personality through their clothing in a very pleasing, creative way. Everyday people around the world take different approaches to putting together a “look”. However, fashion forward thinkers are able to create innovative “looks” that surpass the “trends” and allow their outfits to stand out and make a statement. A person with great style almost has this glow around them that exemplifies their good taste in fashion and puts it on display to influence the people around them. Whether a person is able to make a blog that has a large following that they are able to influence designers, and editors, or, an everyday high school student that influences his/her friends, is a person that exudes the characteristics of a person with “good taste”. A style savvy person also makes a lifestyle out of their good taste. Being able to appreciate a beautifully constructed Italian leather bag could prompt that person to make better and healthier choices in their life. Their fashion tastes influence other aspects of their life. For example, someone is deciding between buying “Fiji Water” versus saving money and drinking out of the tap. A person that makes the decision to buy Fiji Water is someone that has good taste and will buy the water because they understand quality and are willing to pay for it. Likewise, a person that has the option of buying a real Italian leather bag versus a knock off from Wal-Mart also understands quality and will pay for a well made bag. Overall, I believe that fashion is not only an aspect of a style savvy individual, it is a lifestyle that is influenced by the art of fashion.

Classy, confident, and chic are three main characteristics that make up the definition of “good taste” in fashion. Good taste does not necessarily mean wearing the hippest styles or hottest designers, it goes beyond the outer image. Good taste starts on the inside with confidence in everything you do. However, good taste is primarily judged from the outside appearance. Being able to dress in classy and chic fashions in any situation expresses “good taste” in fashion. Also, staying on top of the trendiest styles in fashion as well as adding unique touches of you own personality to your look is GREAT taste in fashion. Although this is my view on “good taste” in fashion; “good taste” can be one thing to one person and something totally different to another. Nevertheless I believe a universal example of “good taste” in fashion, is a person who possess class, confidence, and elegance in all aspects of life.

She walks into the room with simple oxfords on. She had a bold boyish cut, with a black fedora. Even her makeup was perfect; she wore a nude lip with impacting orange blush complementing her porcelain-like skin. She wore a white button-up top with a huge ruffle which subsided into her 80’s like, high-waisted, distressed shorts all veiled by a burgundy velvet blazer, the type Alexander Wang used in his 2010 winter collection. If you can make an outfit look effortless by unifying every detailed piece so that it all flows, then you have achieved good taste. Good taste is someone you see and can’t help but hate, love, and never want to see again. You hate them because they dress like or better than you, you love them because of their synonymous taste, and you never want to see them again because they may dress well everyday, which intimidates you. Good taste is not following trends because they die too quickly. It’s someone who lives and breathes life getting inspired by it, be it through runway collections, culture, or just the texture of a leaf on the floor. Good taste oozes out of a person; they don’t pick at flower petals to wear something or not, they make decisions with confidence and that shows in their final outfit. The girl above made those confident decisions because she has good taste; she used the classic material of velvet which has recently resurfaced in the fashion industry and elegantly made it her own by using simple pieces to balance the outlandishness blazer. She balances heavy masculine pieces, such as the oxfords, blazer, and fedora, with her soft doll-like makeup and feminine ruffles. She has worked for good taste and that is why she is honored and respected in the fashion world.

"Good taste" in fashion to me is what makes me feel confident and comfortable. Different occasions call for different types of styles. There are also too many talented designers to just pick one kind of good style. If I had to pick what "good taste" is, it would be Chloé, for classiness, mixed with Alexander McQueen, for the edginess, and finish the look with a great pair of Chanel vintage pumps. Fashion is a way to express yourself, and to be unique. You do not have to hide what you consider to be good fashion. Each outfit is what you are feeling that day, not to conform to society. "Good taste" is creativity.

Good taste should be about personal style. It should be about what you like and what you’re comfortable in. Don’t dress to impress your friends or the person you like, do it for yourself. That’s the best part of style and taste- expressing your creativity through your clothes. Whether it’s a white collared blouse from J. Crew or a silver sequin Armani Prive gown, show the world what you got! Good taste should come from within and not focused on pleasing everyone else. The number one fashion rule is to wear what you feel comfortable wearing and be confident wearing it. Then you will never go wrong.

To me a "good taste" in fashion means everything. Coming to New York City to go to college this past fall was exciting, especially knowing I was attending one of the best schools in the world. It's different than the Midwest, especially being at a fashion school where, even around the dorm, students look like they just walked out of an Urban Outfitters catalog! At the beginning of the semester, I would strive to be unique pairing a sequin beret with leather shorts and clogs… It's kind of really difficult when everyone is trying so hard just like you. I never realized that they were until now! Writing this post, after my time at school, I would say that "good taste" is no competition. It is purely pleasing yourself and not others.

Timeless is the first word that comes to mind when I think of good taste. Having good taste does not mean always following every new trend. Start by investing in those classic pieces such as the little black dress. Style icons such as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Audrey Hepburn kept it simple through clean lines and brought the LBD into existence. Adding a Phillip Lim sequin blazer to any black dress will spice it up and keep your look effortlessly chic this season. The black dress is always my number one go to but there are other key pieces every woman needs. A classic black or nude pump, a jet-set trench, a fabulous hand bag and a great pair of jeans (we all know how hard those are to find!) are staples to any closet. These classic pieces can be paired with stunning statement jewelry from designers such as Erickson Beamon and Gemma Redux. Accessorizing is so easy and the best way to add a touch of sass! As we all know fashion changes daily. There is always going to be a new pair of Louboutins or Missoni scarf we want but remembering to invest into timeless pieces that will carry you through every season feeling effortless is key in great taste. Karl Lagerfeld said it best when he said, “Change is the healthiest way to survive.” I live and breathe this quote through my life and through fashion. Changing a classic wardrobe by adding something like a boyfriend blazer or a fab oversized watch will make you look and feel très chic! Knowing what looks good on you, how to dress for your body type and how to incorporate those new and exciting pieces into your classic wardrobe is having great taste!

Art. That is what fashion is. Fashion, Clothing and accessories are all forms of art and like all other forms of art, there is such a thing as good taste and bad taste. Good taste is when the clothing, like art, has a personality. While the clothing has its own message to convey, it also speaks about the person that is wearing it and empowers the person to feel strong and confident in themselves. While clothing comes in many different styles, so does good taste. From classic to bohemian, edgy to feminine, good taste is possible with any style. It is about how the person goes about representing that style that matters. Good taste is about being able to create and imagine possibilities. Not being afraid to try something new such as combining patters, or mixing textures and fabrics. It is about knowing and having an intuition about where the line lies between fashionable and stylish clothing and clothing that is cheap, trashy or simply too much. Good taste is knowing what is appropriate to wear to every occasion, when to amp it up or when to tone it down. It is recognizing quality: quality in fabric, cut, finishes and within these boundaries, knowing what works for one’s body. Good taste is made up of many things, some that can be learned and some that cannot. Good taste, unlike clothing, is something that cannot be bought.

Good taste in fashion can be simple, dramatic or what I like to call “funky”, it can be elegant, rock, hip-hop or just simple but most importantly it is being able to let your personal and unique style shine through your choice of clothing. Good taste is making a statement but not over doing it. It means being able to pair different textures, colors, and patterns but still make the outfit look chic, modern and coordinated with the fashion trends of the season. Good taste is being able to make a simple shirt and pair of jeans look like a million dollars by adding a strand of pearls tangled with a crystal necklace and some ribbon, adding a blazer and a pump or boot depending on your mood or plans for the day. Fashion is your voice and as the saying goes, “actions speak louder than words”, meaning you can speak volumes through your clothing or you can just remain silent! The designers envision and create the clothes but it is left up to you to take what they have designed and make it your own. Likewise, it is very important that you feel confident in whatever you are wearing because your confidence level and the clothes that you wear may be an indirect definition of your character to some individuals. At the end of the day good taste is your taste unique from everyone else.

Good taste in Fashion means wearing attire that brings out the very best in you...shows your confidence and personality. It means knowing your body and which colors, textures, and proportions flatter you the most. Whether you buy classics (That will always serve you well.) or Designer and/or trendy pieces, one with good taste will dress in a manner that looks effortless. He or she will wear the clothes, not visa versa. Also, good taste need not be dependent upon your economic status. It's more about creating your own unique style and making a statement. Lastly, I feel it's about dressing appropriately for the occasion and venue. Thank you for your consideration. It's an amazing opportunity, and much appreciated!

Good taste to me is being able to put together an outfit that awes everyone in the room. Good taste has nothing to do with wearing a $500 dress over a $100 dress. It is wearing a stunning dress and being able accessorize it perfectly from head to toe. Will putting on that extra bangle or necklace make the outfit look tacky or will it be the perfect addition? There are times I will wear the exact same article of clothing as a friend but it’s the way I accessorize it that makes others actually notice the outfit and compliment it. Most fashionistas’ live by Coco Chanel’s words of wisdom, “before you leave for the day take one thing off” but I tend to live by putting one more item on. A plain white t-shirt can be completely transformed with a chunky necklace, the right shoes and few bangles and cocktail rings. The overall outfit immediately changes from boring to glam, unique, exiting; and that is what fashion is all about! Although “good taste” is completely opinionated, there is a middle ground where completely opposite designers, for example Betsey Johnson and Tory Burch, will agree that an outfit is stunning. It’s this middle ground of fashion that is the foundation for having good taste in fashion.

To me, good taste in fashion is being able to pair timeless pieces with modern ones. It's not about how expensive a piece is or even that it's made by a well known designer, it's about knowing how to put an ensemble together. If you can afford the best clothes in the world, but don't know how to take those clothes to create a well put together ensemble, then having those expensive clothes means nothing. However, if you take a person that can only afford the less expensive clothes, but knows how to put those clothes together to create an award winning ensemble, then that is having good taste in fashion. Also, it's about being able to tell the well constructed garments from the not so well constructed ones.

Hummm. Good taste in fashion is wearing your clothes where the designers have meant for them to be worn. So for all those men who think it is in good taste to wear those jeans down around their thighs, think again. For those ladies who think that wearing a size smaller than you should because it makes the dress shorter or the cleavage lower, think again. Designers have specific thoughts in mind when designing their clothes. If it has a waist, then the pants should be worn around the waist. Designers have a passion to design and take the time and energy to turn out fabulous clothes for all to wear. So wear your clothes with pride knowing that someone has been hard at work to make you look great!

Good taste in fashion is good style. Style is an individual outward expression of your personality. Everyone can achieve good style it is just a matter of what you like. From high luxury couture to affordable street fashion, good taste can be achieved with both ends of the spectrum. It is just the way you work items, patterns, fabrics, garments and trends together. You can be ‘out of the box’ creative mixing patterns, colours and items to design the wild expression of yourself that everyone can see or you can be the natural free person, if that’s your personality. Style and good taste is totally up to you! Personally good taste and style to me is wearing what suits your personality and your body. A woman, like myself, always wants to flatter the figure; no matter what size you are 0 to 16 it is all achievable with the right style of clothes. My personality is reflected in my clothes, depending upon how I feel when I wake up, I will wear colour if I am feeling flirty and fun or neutral colours and black if I am feeling that little bit of rock chick within. Most of my tops are loss fitting and pants are figure hugging, as I feel that style of clothing suits me best and gives me the great style I crave. Good taste is also not just about the clothes you wear; it is also about your beauty within and the personality that is reflected in those clothes. Personally to achieve great taste you need the personality and then the reflective clothes. Fashion isn’t restrictive, so let your personality shine and get the great style and taste you have always wanted.

Florals and tribals and plaids, oh my! Fashion is all about fun! You can mix and match patterns and ultimately be different in every way possible. Good taste and fashion go together like hot sauce on collard greens. They’re basically the same thing. Want to know the best part? It doesn’t have to be expensive; it just needs to represent who you are. For instance, with stores like Forever 21, Charlotte Russe and H&M, people are able to express themselves by way of inexpensive clothes. So express yourself! Whether it’s a structured electric-blue silk satin jacket by Matthew Williamson, a Sonia Rykiel black pencil skirt or a biker jacket from Rag & Bone, good taste is what defines you and only you. A tight, little black dress, gold pumps matched with a red lip and a slick, tight hair bun; now that is what I call good taste. Whether it’s your taste, well that all depends on you. Fashion has no limits. So get crazy, make a bold statement and stand out!

What does “good taste” in fashion means to me? Ok here it goes… 5 qualities every woman and man should put into consideration to create good taste. 1. Keep it classy not trashy-Ah Yes, here we go again with the “Keep it classy” statement, however; many young girls have completely forgotten all about dressing with elegance. Celebrities such as Miley Cyrus and Taylor Momsen are not helping the situation much either, thanks guys. Creating good taste involves leaving a little something to the imagination and not showing everything your momma gave you. Fashion icons, Audrey Hepburn and Coco Chanel, are still being idolized all over the world for having classic styles. Remember you don’t always have to show goodies to be remembered. 2. Make a Statement- To have good taste, involves taking risk and not being afraid to be express yourself. I love seeing fashionistas creating their own unique outfits and being able to mix patterns. Fashion trends are created by people who are willing to try something different and willing to stand out in a crowd. Don’t be afraid to rock that Lady Gaga outfit you might have hanging in your closet. Scared of what people might say? Well it might happen to be the next big trend, you never know who might be watching. 3. Know your Body- Good taste involves knowing what looks good on your body shape. It is so significant to know what shape your body is. Not everyone can pull off the same outfit, such as Kim Kardashian ( the one with the junk in the trunk) may not be able to pull off the Kate Moss dress coming down the runway. Make sure to choose flattering pieces of clothing that snug just the right areas! 4. Knowing what’s appropriate- What to wear and when to wear it? Good taste involves knowing what outfit is suitable for each event in your life. It is key to know what‘s appropriate for a job interview, night out with the girls, or even on a date with a new guy. The clothes you are wearing to a special event can either make it or break it. Example: The perfect outfit for a date with a hot new guy, A basic black blazer, flattering tank, a pair of fitted jeans, and classic heel would totally rock it. First impression can sometimes be the last impression. Make sure that hot date with the handsome soccer player isn’t the last. 5. Confidence is Key- New fashion trends are appearing ever day and the trends can be hard to keep up with. Therefore, not only does good taste involve what you are wearing on your body but also what you are wearing on that gorgeous face. Make sure to always have confidence in whatever you may have on for the day. Holding your head up high, with a smile on your face can always make an outfit look 100 percent better. I believe if you take these 5 qualities in to consideration everyday any woman or man should be able to take over the world. Plus you will have on one amazing outfit for each adventure life may take you. XoXo

I'm sorry. The previous comment was falsely submitted. PLEASE DISREGARD IT. The following is my actual entry. -------------------- Individuality is key to good taste. Good taste isn’t following trends blindly or copying everything celebrities wear. Everyone should wear things that they truly love. Who cares if Chloe Sevigny wore it last week? True fashionistas are always unique; they never copy anyone else’s style. Someone with style doesn’t care about what anyone else is wearing; they’re too busy focusing on their own clothes. Also, wearing pieces you actually love will make you much more confident than if you’re ripping off somebody else’s style. Your clothes should always make you feel fabulous and confident, like you could walk straight onto a runway. Good taste also lacks snobbery. A person with good taste doesn’t care if something costs $10 or $1,000. They select carefully from both expensive and affordable designers. Good taste has some practicality –– like saving on the basics, but splurging on unique and important pieces. Style is all about mixing high and low. On the same note, people with good taste aren’t afraid of shopping vintage or thrift. Dressing to flatter your body is essential to good taste. Whatever your shape and size, it’s bad taste to wear things that are unflattering. No two people have the exact same body, and your dress should reflect that. If your jeans give you a muffin-top or your body-conscious dress is three sizes too big, that’s not good taste. Your clothes should fit you. People with good taste will get their clothes tailored to make sure that they fit perfectly. These three factors –– individuality, mixing high and low, and dressing to flatter your body –– constitute good taste. However, while the people with the best taste may shop strategically, they always make sure that fashion is fun. The truly fashionable never take themselves or their clothes too seriously.

Good taste in fashion is not only knowing your own identity in the clothes that you wear, but to push the envelope. Good taste in fashion is to stand out in a world of 8 billion people while, at the same time, making fashion your own. Good taste in fashion is the ability to catch double-takes and leave a lasting image; to be controversial. Good taste in fashion is the ability to be open-minded and taking chances. It is utilizing the senses to create your identity.. the smell of your trademark cologne, the sound of your shoes beating on the floor as you walk, the texture of your outfit. Good taste is the ability to wear an outfit, cover your face, and still be identified.

Personal style is key to good taste. Each person’s unique way of dressing determines whether they have good taste, specifically the individuality of that person’s style. Good taste is not dressing in head-to-toe designer and having no originality. Copying everything you see stars wearing in People Magazine is not true personal style; it’s just easy. Every person should dress in a way that suits their aesthetic taste, personality, and lifestyle. Who cares if Chloe Sevigny wore it last week? The important question is: do YOU like it? Good taste also includes a lack of snobbery when it comes to fashion. A person with good taste doesn’t care if that piece of jewelry they love cost $10 or $1,000. Also, those who understand taste select carefully from both high-end and low-end designers, vintage pieces, and inexpensive basics. Good taste has that element of practicality –– buying basics like T-shirts from American Apparel or the Gap, but splurging on the pieces that are unique and important. Mixing high and low is essential to good taste. Someone with good taste selects the pieces they wear carefully and thoughtfully. They review the new trends from each season and pick which ones suit their style and body type, not just blindly buying into the trends that their favorite celebrities are wearing. Dressing to suit one’s body type is key in determining good taste. Whether you are tall, petite, thin, or plus-sized, good taste is negated if you are not dressing in a way that suits your body’s shape. No two people have the exact same body, and your dress should reflect that. If your jeans give you a muffin-top or your body-conscious dress is three sizes too big, that’s not good taste. Your clothes should fit you. If necessary, people with good taste will get their clothes tailored to make sure that the fit is perfect. For some, good taste comes naturally. For others, it takes practice. But for both types of people, fashion and style should be fun. These three factors for good taste are simple: wear what you like, shop high and low, and wear things that are flattering to your shape and size. That leaves a lot of room for having fun. If you want to wear those wedge ankle boots with five-inch heels, wear them. If you want to wear a strapless dress as a skirt, do it! As long as you are aware of those three simple rules, you can be sure you are in good taste.

To me, good taste in fashion means two things: classic pieces, but also being able to work your own style. In my opinion, the most fabulous attire has been able to transcend trend after trend. There are countless pieces of fashion and accessories that worked over fifty years ago, and are just as fashionable today. The pieces that are able to make it work for more than a season or two become iconic and classic, and always in good taste. Similarly, seeing something in the pages of a magazine and then rushing out to buy that exact outfit is not good taste. Good taste is about creating your own look, not about copying or relying on someone else’s taste. Working your own style, even if it is a little different or odd or not on trend, is always more authentic then wearing whatever someone tells you too. Combining your own style with classic pieces shows the world that not only do you have good taste, but you are stylish enough to make it your own.

Good taste means being okay with matching expensive items of clothes with cheap ones. It means not overdoing it, having one thing in the outfit that stands out, whether its lipstick, your handbag or heels. It means dressing for you and not because its a trend. You don't buy a pair of skinny jeans because Nicole Rchie wore them InStyle but because they compliment your body. It means being daring and not dressing like everyone else, it's showing the world who you really are, and letting them know you are there!!! What people most often times forget is that clothes is the unspoken truth about you, it represents you as a person. If you wear loud colors and patterns you are most probably a loud, crazy person. The thing I love most about style is that people either love it or hate it but in the end you can never be wrong, so go out there and show 'em what you're made of!!!

I believe that ‘good taste’ in fashion means being able to see the perfect proportions, details, colors, textures and harmonizing them together to create something that is classic but unique. Good taste also means knowing what is flattering but bold, that makes everyone who crosses your path take a mental note of how to recreate what they see. In a society of fast fashion, good taste is being able to choose and know which styles will remain fashionable and which styles are just fads. Good taste in my eyes is being able to look at a mess of clothing, accessories, and shoes and being able to pick out the pieces that could land on the cover of magazines. It means being inspired to incorporate art into your every day life. Whether it be pairing a unique piece of jewelry to an otherwise basic outfit or knowing that less can in many cases be more.

Good fashion creates positive energy. It flows with the person, not against them. Good fashion represents a calming river, where accessories like scarves watches etc. become the rocks that the main outfit moves with in one direction. It is natural not contrived as if you are to be wearing it, tailor made to the persona that you wish to reflect without harming others. Good fashion is lost with chemistry in our on line world, and therefore becomes even more impactful where personal contact becomes less and less. Finally how else can you better reflect at first glance who you are without the use of fashion.

Good taste in fashion to me starts with how an outfit is put together. Anyone can have a closet full of designer clothes, but it is all about how you put those pieces together. It never seems to fail that every time I go shopping with a friend I pick something out that my friends say is different or weird. Then when I put the garment on with a whole outfit they change their mind saying I pulled it off. I believe everyone has their own style and what kind of personality someone has tends to show in a person’s choice of fashion. I also believe that good taste has to do with how an outfit is presented. When people go shopping they don't want to see the mannequins dressed sloppy. When you walk into a store all of the forms are perfect therefore making people want to look like those forms. Working in a retail store myself I see how having a well put together outfit can make many people feel. Another example of that is the show What Not to Wear. The host take people that do not spend time worrying about how they are dressed and guide them on how dressing tastefully makes a tremendous difference on how they feel and how others around them show more respect just by that person being more presentable. Things do not always have to match to look good it just has to simply coordinate. I have a friend that likes starbucks ice cubes and Fiji water. it doesn’t necessarily match but it taste better to her. She created her own taste that makes her feel good. My motto is you wear the clothes don’t let the clothes wear you. That’s what good taste in fashion means to me.

Good fashion to me is to simply have a style of your own. To always dress neat and not sloppy. It doesn't matter what type of clothing you wear, what you decorate your house with and what kind of car you drive, it just has to reflect you. People should be able to see a car, clothing, or something to put in your house and be able to say "that reminds me of (insert name)". So good fashion to me is having a style of your own, that reflects you! :)

To me having good taste in fashion is choosing what feels great, appeals to the eye, and is something you cant absolutely live without that’s when you know you found something great. When i grew up having good taste was being able to afford it. Since i didn’t have a job until i was older, i created my own style, which included, wearing long colorful socks with pleated school girl skirts, different colored shoe laces as headbands, adding more buttons to my shirts and making necklaces out of cufflinks. The little things separated me from the rest, but in a good way, i began to stand out and be admired. I think having good taste is being able to appreciate any garment and not question the price weather its expensive or not, being able to take something that was designed for a certain type of woman and make it your own. I have a deep love and appreciation for fashion, I have always been an artistic person, but my life is fashion. The best part of my day is walking down the streets of midtown Manhattan on my way to work – I never know what wonderful fashion statement I will see on any given day. And inspiration can be found everywhere in this city – everyday sights can inspire some of the most beautiful garments. For example, the flowers in Central Park remind me of the bold floral prints that are usually featured in Oscar de la Renta's spring collections. To me having good tastes is being timeless, looking timeless and owning your look.

"Good taste" in fashion means not liking an article of clothing because of the label attached to it, rather because of its aesthetic and appeal to the eye. Consumers who buy clothing because it says "Donna Karen" on it, don't seem to have the right frame of mind when purchasing the apparel. They (usually) think of it as more of a "status symbol" then how the actual garment can improve their outfit. On the other hand, consumers with good taste can find something equally as beautiful in a random thrift store. Although this may seem a bit subjective, good taste means something different to everyone. There could be a girl who wears classic clothing, but does not approach the style in the correct way, therefore she would be universally considered as not having good taste. Each person has their own interpretation. Another thing that adds to "good taste" is confidence. Even if Gisele Bunchen was wearing a tutu, she would exude confidence, and not be nearly as criticized as someone mousy who wore a classic shift dress. Good taste is how you play the part.

Being raised by a Baptist Reverend, my level of modesty was always my father’s number one concern. To keep my attire modest, he raised me to ask myself three questions before leaving the house; three questions that, ironically, I now believe can be directly applied to answer what a “good taste” in fashion is. Question 1, “Does this outfit reflect who I am as person and what I want others to think of me?” My answer to this is simple, when I dress it is a form of self-expression. So yes, even if it may be on the scantily clad side that day then that is my current look of choice, hence linking with my current mood, feel free to judge. Question 2, “Would I wear this outfit in front of God?” Well, Dad, you raised me to believe that God gave me all my gifts and traits. Having the notable fashion sense that I do, than God must be one huge Fashionista, so you better believe that I am going to look fabulous if I’m having a dinner date with the big guy up top. And Question 3, “Will this outfit make boy’s lust?” Now this question I have a hard time answering because I personally don’t dress for others, I dress to please myself. If I love what I am wearing, this euphoric feeling can be seen all over my face and my huge smile that reeks of self satisfaction will automatically make the boys lust. So if you’re going to TacoBell and decide to wear a prom gown, as long as you can provide three appropriate answers to these questions, then not only will the rev approve of your taste in fashion, but I’d say, honey, you look GOOD.

“Good taste” in fashion means something different to everybody. To me, “good taste” is a perfect mix of flair and classic, contemporary, or clean. It means a ruffled sweater and heels with skinny jeans. A silk blouse with a killer leather skirt and knee-high boots. It means a fun, flirty slightly seductive style, with an understated finish. This is what fashion in ‘good taste’ means to and for me personally. In general, however, good taste in fashion means that which displays your personal style and brand in a way consistent with who you want the world to perceive you to be. If your goal is to be a performance-artist caliber rockstar, then it’s in “good taste” to dress like Lady Gaga given your persona. If you’re an email marketing rockstar at Ralph Lauren, well, then you better stick to your blue blazer, killer blouse, skinny jeans, and knee high boots. Bottom line is to know who you are and understand who you want the world to perceive you to be. Fashion is simply your vehicle to self-expression.

Good taste is not simply a matter of being trendy or wearing expensive brands. Instead, good taste refers to your ability to create a unique aesthetic. In a market saturated with cheap imitations and a desire to shock we have forgotten how essential it is to form an identity far removed from the masses. Thus, good taste is your willingness and desire to eschew what is “normal” and stay true to your personal vision. Moreover, to have good taste means to renounce the trends which sweep the industry, yet do not ignite a passion in your soul. An idea may enchant everyone else, but you will be nothing more than a pathetic follower if you attempt to bow down to an idea simply because it is popular. It is without a doubt challenging to maintain an individual sense of style because there are countless people who will denounce your taste. Yet, the true showstoppers of modern fashion have imprinted their image on our collective fashion conscious. Ultimately, good taste means to provoke contemporary attitudes and inspire change.

Good taste in fashion is the ability to celebrate beauty through personal style. Although many people describe fashion as frivolous or trivial, the power of fashion through personal style should never be underestimated. Fashion through personal style can allow a person to shape and tailor his or her own image. Developing a personal style can only a person to change, to grow, to evolve. Personal style allows for transformation and the chance to become someone or something despite a reality that suggests differently. I believe that such transformations are absolutely beautiful; good taste in fashion becomes a celebration of these transformations while simultaneously encouraging and exploring these transformations. Good taste in fashion means celebrating the beauty of self-evolution.

To me, good taste in fashion means having confidence, and dressing yourself in a way that is going to enhance that confidence. Clothes make an impression, they show off a person's personality, individuality, and highlight what makes a person unique. Good taste means showing off only the best attributes of yourself, embracing one's individual beauty. Good taste is inspiring. It can be bold and bright, or classic and black. But whatever it is, good taste is all about making yourself shine. When you wear what you want and embrace your own sense of style, not only do you feel great and have confidence, but you look absolutely fabulous.

“Good Taste” in Fashion to me is………… Simplicity, good sense of proportion, texture consciousness and a color harmony should be key ingredients to a Good taste formula. It is also essential to be aware of how much skin is exposed; we don’t want to cross the line between sexy and vulgar. At the same time it is important to know the difference between fun and ridiculous. In my opinion to have a self style but also be capable of appreciate and understand other styles also constitute part of what it mean to have a good taste in fashion, as well as being comfortable with what you wear, knowing what looks best on you, to be dressed accordingly to the occasion and season, knowing how to wisely accessorized a look, not having fear of being innovative, trying new trends but always considering the basic s mentioned before and keeping always in mind what you leave “out “is as important as what you put “in”.

“Personally I think it would be tacky to wear diamonds before I’m forty” spoke Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. From rompers to pearls to diamonds everyone has their own idea of “good taste”. I believe everyone has their own taste of fashion. All over the world fashion is defined by different things. However, good taste in fashion is hard to pin point. To me, good taste is following your own style in fashion to fit your lifestyle, personality and body. Throughout history women have made sacrifices for fashion. Cage crinoline hips were dangerous to be outside on a windy day, and corsets made it difficult for a woman to breathe. At the appropriate time these were considered fashionable, yet the everyday woman could not wear them all the time. You can never underestimate womankind’s willingness to be a fashion victim. Jeans and a white t-shirt is always an iconic, James Dean, kind of look. Adding your own accessories to make the look your own is the perfect “good taste” in fashion. Sometimes less in more. “Good taste” is full of good judgement. Everyone can be their own judge!

I believe good taste in fashion is the ability to combine colors and patterns, the ability to accessorize and finally to complete the outfit finding the right shoes. First the skill to combine colors and patterns, if you have the wrong colors in outfit, it could be ghastly, such an example hot pink and neon yellow. That is combination that should never be put together. A good combine would be pink and white or blue and black. Patterns can add define the outfit, and can make the pop and can make you look like you have good taste. I think it good match patterns with color. But I think mixing pattern with some patterns not a good idea. If you mix some patterns you could very wild and not put together. The ability to accessorize can make or break an outfit. Also if you have worn the outfits before it could give the outfit remix effect or changes up the outfit. We have discussed colors and patterns, and accessories, let’s look at the last piece when putting together an outfit the shoes. I love shoes. Shoes and accessories can make or break an outfit. Shoes and are like the icing on the cake. Cake would not be complete without the icing. With that thought an outfit would not be complete without shoes and accessories. Shoes people should stick classic styles because they never go out of style, but it fun to go trendy ever once in while, but when I go trendy I try not spend a lot of money on it, because when next season rolls around, it will be out of style. Shoes can bring a pop of color to little black dress. Or the can add texture like pairing little black dress with black lace heels. Everyone has good taste, and some has better styles than others. Overall everyone has to choose their own style.

“What does ‘good taste’ in fashion mean to you?” Good taste is drinking Fiji water, and being pleased that the company has worked out the difficulties w/ the Fijian government, and we can continue to hydrate ourselves w/ good, pure water. Hydration is important to ensure vibrant skin and even tone. Hydration also means that our brains are functioning at their top capacity, and we can maintain stamina and pressure during the whirl wind of Fashion Week. GOOD TASTE is fashion, is displaying your strength, self-confidence and beauty.

‘Good taste’ in fashion to me is the world of timeless, wearable clothes and accessories. It is an entire universe of imagination, international dimension, and passion. ‘Good taste in fashion’ uses knowledge and understanding of basic necessities and then incorporates present style and sophistication into the final masterpiece. I believe classic style becomes timeless over generations because it is always a pleasure to look at; whether it be quirky, modern, or classic with a sexy edge. ‘Good taste’ in fashion is a mix of essentials; whether it be structure, texture, or color, that work in the office and beyond. Everyday life inspires my sense of fashion and CLASSIC STYLE, whether that be structured, draped, black, or white, is always ‘good taste’.

Good taste isn't easy to define. Many people Lady GaGa is the height of fashion and seek to emulate her. To me, those styles are here today, gone tomorrow. I personally am drawn to shoes when I'm evaluating the way someone dresses. My daughter is a teenager and at school performances I can't tell you how many times I have seen a young girl all dressed up on stage wearing cheap, trashy shoes. If you look for good fabrics and wear things that fit correctly even if they need to be tailored, along with a decent pair of shoes you should be prepared for anything.

When I was third grade by mother came into my class to read a book. She entered the classroom wearing pin-stripe pants with suspenders and a crisp, white man-tailored shirt. I was so embarrassed by her outfit I yelled at her when I got home. I told my mother she looked weird and that I wanted her to wear jeans like all the other moms. My mother was patient and listened to my rant. She paused, considered my reaction to her outfit and told me that good taste means not looking like everyone else. She told me sometimes you can’t listen to everyone else’s criticism and you have to be confident in the choices you make—standing out should not have a negative connation associated with it. I didn’t really understand her wise words at that point in my life but now I fully comprehend the magnitude of the lesson. I employ those tips not only in my style but in my life. I realize that my mother taught me all those years ago how to hold my head up high and create my own distinct taste in fashion.

Good taste in fashion to me is my attitude and that what I am wearing is setting me apart from all others in the room. My good taste will have you asking me where I bought it and how can I help you find it. Good fashion means that I make the outfit look good, not the outfit making me look good. I wear all things well and I carry myself in such as fashion that you can't help but notice me when I step in the room. Good taste in fashion means always being photo ready, I keep my hair, nails, eyelashes, and pedicure done at all times. You never know who your going to meet, so you always need to be ready. Good taste is a thought out process, not last minute. Remember just because it zips doesn't mean it fits.

For one’s good taste in fashion to translate into personal style, one must be truly aware of one’s body. A person needs to know what works for their body shape, size, and height. Most people can pick out the trendier of two sweaters or the pants that have the better fit. However, the trendier sweater or the “better” pants may not complement one’s body type and so will not translate into good taste. Therefore to be able to translate good taste through one’s fashion choices, a person must truly understand their body type to know what works for them and what does not. Also, having good taste means much more than loving shopping and following the trends, one must also be aware of different shapes, colours, fabrics and silhouettes. This is because knowledge of these things is necessary to pair things up appropriately when dressing up as this is a very crucial step where people often make mistakes that ruin their outfits. Lastly, most people than can be said to have good taste often have something or someone that inspires their personal style. They have this one thing they build from and it always translates beautifully.

“Good Taste” means having a good fashion taste but I feel it has nothing to do what trend is in, what trend is out, or what everyone conforms to. It is about being your individual. It is about what you think is good taste and not just accepting what everyone else thinks is good taste. Good Taste is making something your own and making it look good. Showing that this is you. This is who I am. This is my taste. What is yours? Your “good taste” for example in fashion that is different from others makes people look. That is how fashion trends are started. It is started with people who have “good taste” in their wardrobe that is not like others. All these fashion designers out here have a taste, which is different and not the same. If everyone had the same good taste life would be dull and boring. I believe everyone has a “Good Taste.”

“Good Taste in Fashion” can mean many things to many fashionistas around the world. “Good Taste” is subject to change with every person you meet in life. However, I feel that the people who “think” they know everything about the ins and outs of fashion, are the ones who have the most to learn. “Good Taste in Fashion” is knowing what you like, but being able to appreciate others style choices as well. The fashion world is constantly changing and recycling old fashion staples and reinventing them, so good taste could range from what you would wear for yourself, and what others choose to enjoy too. Through internships at a fashion PR firm and interning at Allure Magazine, I feel that the people who are most influential and with “good taste” in fashion, are the ones who are still willing to learn, and are able to open their eyes and ears to something new.

Good taste in fashion is when the collection of a designer takes me on an unforgettable journey from the opening look to the very last. Much like the good taste Fiji water provides, it begins with “rain falls that filter through layers of volcanic rock cleansing the water of impurities and contaminants while also adding beneficial minerals to ultimately produce a distinctly soft, smooth taste." In fashion it begins with the designer and where their inspiration comes from; perhaps it is a shimmery glisten from a breezy ocean tide or the rigged distorted figure of a twisted branch. When a beautifully constructed garment is worn down the runway, the element that makes it special is when the designer molds textures and shapes that were unimaginable. Just like the Fiji water bottle, unlike the rest it is square and has a calming picture that comes to life with every movement of water in the bottle. After one taste I am overly satisfied with the cleanliness and pure taste of Fiji water because of the exceptional process and care the company makes to produce superior tasting water. A designer with good taste has a collection of garments that exceed my expectations and raise the bar for creativity and exclusivity. I believe and trust in their work and season after season I am excited and anticipating their genius creations. Good taste in fashion is inspired design, quality craftsmanship and unforgettable excitement. Good taste in fashion is like Fiji in beverages, its more than a look, it's an experience!

Fashion to me is all about having 'good taste' in not only what you wear but how you wear it and make it your own. Classic pieces such as blue jeans and heels or the statement handbag will always be fashionable but knowing how to accessorize to keep it in good taste is key. You do not always have to follow trends for that season but take the latest or trendy item and make it yours by using existing pieces of jewelry or clothes in your closet. The best way to describe good taste in fashion is to know how to put your best outfit together for the appropiate time and place.

When I think of good taste in fashion I think of what appeals to my taste and likes. It is the kind of fashion I find beautiful, unique and timeless. Fashion is constantly evolving into something ridiculously creative and seems to always capture my attention. Having good taste is a person’s own preference in what they like. My taste in fashion each day usually depends on my attitude, the occasion, self confidence, and the forecast. For example if it is raining outside, and my attitude is cheerful, I will wear my Burberry rain boots along with a fun sequin dress to express my attitude. Fashion is definitely a form of art and everyone should think of themselves as artwork and make it come alive. All the colors, designs, and aesthetic that people create in fashion expresses a sense of good taste when they are confident in their work, as well as looks. Confidence plays a key aspect in good taste in fashion because in order for people to believe in your style one must believe in yourself, this means having swag. Therefore good taste in fashion means being extraordinary and is crucial in my life. Words of wisdom from me to you; if you have good taste own it, and if no one believes you show them better than you can tell them.

To define good taste to me is like trying to define a good economy, you can never really tell until after you see the public reaction. I have lived in five countries in three continents which has taught me one golden rule: Good taste does not translate, living in Italy I had a Pucci obsession and to the people there the miss-match of four or eight different prints was not only appreciated and defined as good taste but it was also an expression of the local culture. In my hometown, London, such an outfit raised a lot of eyebrows and I was questioned wether I was on drugs or just pure crazy... I took up my love for graphic prints while living in Hong Kong where the Pucci garments was not so much an expression of the culture as it was off my social status and position. Such purpose does however in my meaning, not reflect good taste. I think we have all seen these women that like to define themselves through a Louis Vuitton bag or Christian Louboutin shoes, whenever I see a woman who has fallen for such "tacky" image I pitty her. Not only is she missing good taste but also a personality. I think good taste is defined by a person who manages to communicate not only their personal taste but also manages to look comfortable, relaxed and elegant. There are no "must-haves" in good taste and there are no brands or garments that are guaranteed to give you a good taste, it is all about knowing what suits your body shape as well as your personality.

"Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder," so does fashion! Before I walk out the door, before going out, I think Glamour, glitter, spotlights, show stopper! Who feels the same? Probably not many, but thats exactly what fashion is all about. Diversity lingers all around, not just in the United States, not just in our own community, but all over the world. Fashion should be thought of in the same sense; it makes up part of the world's diversity from a jersey and jeans to a kimono and getas or a gucci suit and alligator shoes. Each and every person's sense of good taste is vastly diverse. Although many might not agree on the same good taste in fashion many may agree that when they look in the mirror and get that certain vibe that tells them "now i'm complete and ready" they get that confidence that tells them they are ready to show the world their unique fashion style.

To me, "good taste in fashion" means fresh. Hip. Extraordinary. "Good taste in fashion" can come in all shapes and sizes, from sequins to leather, to plush, and everything in between. Fashion is incredible in that you do not need to have thousands of dollars to be different, to be "fashionable," but to have good taste, you can cut up and old pair of jeans, throw on a brightly colored scarf, a tank top you wore back in fifth grade that was too big for you, and head out to the club. To have "good taste" one can take something old, and revamp, they can buy something new and make it different, they can combine four pieces of clothing from all different stores and make it sexy. In conclusion, Fashion is really in the eye of the beholder.

When it comes to a person’s individual style, “good taste” is what he or she feels the most comfortable in. Without feeling good physically, he or she won’t be able to express their confidence and love of fashion. What may appear to be “good taste” to one person may not resonate with someone else. However, it is one’s particular mood that allows him or her to feel comfortable in a particular outfit. Like food, something may look delicious one day or horrible the next- it depends on how the person is feeling. Personally, I have an eclectic palette for style. My outfits range day-to-day from thoughtful and “fussy” outfits to easy hipster easy ensembles. The ability to look creative and effortless in a single look is difficult and I would give the compliment of having “good taste” to the person who can pull off both flawlessly.

People judge you based on the clothes you wear everyday. The reason people do this is because fashion has become a reflection of who you are and what your personality is. “Good taste” is what I would use to describe someone who knows who they are and therefore can show it appropriately with the clothes they wear. That’s why fashion has become a very hard concept for most people to grasp. Knowing who you truly are is hard enough to grasp much less knowing how to express it. Having a daughter who is a high school student I know firsthand the struggles people face to be comfortable enough with yourself to be able to express that without trying to be someone you're not. And so, I would have to disagree with the people who said that everyone has “good taste” because, yes “good taste” is determined by your own opinion of what looks good on you, but you have to know yourself before you can determine what exactly your taste is. When you are confident enough to be yourself, accept who you are, know who you are, and not try to be someone you're not, then you will discover the world of fashion and realize that fashion isn’t there to hide your flaws or somehow transform you into the person you want to be. Fashion is about confidence to be who you are and once you realize that, you will have “good taste.”

'Good Taste' in Fashion means, to me that knowing your worth,& what fits you and wearing it proud. There is nothing like owning an outfit and wearing it with confidence. Good Taste can be Subjective. It's all about how you're wearing it. The outfit is only half of it. Good Taste comes from developing your own sense of style. Good Taste is also shown through those who are willing to take risks and are not afraid of rocking bold trends while keeping it effortless. A Taste that is branded with your own unique DNA.

What does "good taste in fashion mean to me"? It means so very many things. What does that mean? Fashion is a personal style. Most people follow trends and patterns. I on the other hand create my own style. Good taste in fashion is relative. You can be retro with modern accents or vice versa. Dressing in something that you feel comfortable in and looking good, while also attracting glances. I had once espied this nipped and tucked middle-aged woman who was wearing this high-fashion spandex outfit and a skirt over it. Had the average woman wore this ensemble, they would've been stared at for all of the wrong reasons. However this woman was just regal. She was not universally beautiful but her hair was wild and had pizazz. Her makeup was fierce, and her body was better than most 20 year olds, at least in this city (New York). Everyone needs to find their own style. Granted every group needs a leader and every leader needs followers but as far fashion is concerned, I follow my own way! ;)

Good taste in fashion is very subjective. What a star wears today may become a fad or hot but this does not mean it's tasteful. Some fashions are just a flash in the pan not withstanding the test of time. To me good taste is one that does not offend the senses. It is pleasing to the eye. It is exciting without being vulgar. Good taste like the fine water product Fiji stands the test of time. It is talked about not laughed at 10 years down the road.

In fashion, ''good taste'' signifies a gray area that is not easily visible due to difference in opinion. However, there are some key point in good taste. I think good taste has a lot to do with appreciation for fine, sustainable fabrics, texture and contrast. People with ''good taste'' have an eye for proportion, and they can tell the difference between an outfit that makes a fashion statement and an outfit that does not work. Its about the ability to selectively break fashion rules and get away with them. You cant have good taste with individuality. Anybody can copy the exact same look off the runway, but it takes somebody special to pair those Gucci pants with a top from Forever 21 or even Goodwill and make it the entire outfit look straight out of Vogue. ''Good taste'' also requires good sense; you should be able to know whether or not a piece of clothing is flattering, well fitted, and in style. Some people buy beautiful designer pieces, but they look terrible because they don't fit right or are just not flattering for that body type.

"Good taste" in fashion means whatever you are wearing, you can totally pull it off with comfort and confidence. You need to know yourself and what works out with your body and personality. Covering your weaknesses and emphasizing on your strengths can boost the quality of your fashion sense, as well as your comfortability. Being able to create an outfit that represents you (only you!) could be a gift, but it also is an achievement. It is certainly hard and probably impossible to impress everyone and grab their attention. However, if you show them your confidence and presence, they will want to have a second look at you! And, this is probably why we care so much about what celebrities are wearing regardless of how unfashionable they clothes might be. You can always choose to follow the trends if that is what interests you. Believe it or not, it is a lot of work to keep up with the fast-changing trends nowadays! Nonetheless, you can also choose to be yourself without caring so much about what other people would think. At the end, some will love you or hate you no matter what outfit you are wearing. It is only you who can truly judge your fashion sense because fashion is all about self-satisfaction.

'Good taste' in fashion means expressing individuality. I think that following trends is great, but putting an edge on them and making them a personal statement. Clothing should express a personality. Finding a balance between what is "in style" and one's personal style is what makes an outfit look unique from anyone else. One person's personal style may be the opposite of someone else's, but having the confidence to wear whatever it is that makes you comfortable is above all. Confidence is the key to pulling off any look. Walking into a room with confidence in your look is what makes people look at an outfit and respect the fact that it is your personal style and you have the confidence to pull it off.

“Good Taste” in fashion is all about striking the balance between a personal style aesthetic and what is appropriate for a given occasion. For fashion designers this means creating collections that meet the needs of their customers. In a practical sense this can mean creating a fur jacket for a winter collection or a linen dress for a resortwear line. However, designing for the times on a larger scale can refer to a military inspired jacket during times of war or using simple lines and neutral colors in times of economic uncertainty. The best designers are able to create collections that keep such practical factors in mind while remaining devoted to a signature aesthetic. One would never mistake the “Good Taste” of Karl Lagerfeld for that of Alexander Wang. For consumers and everyday fashionistas, “Good Taste” is about dressing appropriately for an occasion such as work or a family dinner while still allowing elements of personal style to be incorporated. The range of what is tasteful for any venue or occasion is quite broad and as such “Good Taste” is not something to make fashion lovers feel inhibited but rather express themselves in an appropriate yet one-of-a-kind way.

When it comes to the topic of 'good taste' I believe Diana Vreeland said it best: "too much good taste can be boring." While yes, impeccably put together outfits are something most fashion aficionados can appreciate, there's a special sense of accomplishment when you are able to intermix different patterns, fabrics and styles to create one unexpected look. To me, good taste in fashion is something that adapts with time and with whomever is judging. A true fan of fashion is able to see the endless possibilities with a simple pair of denim jeans, a classic LBD, or a timeless handbag. Pairing together key, classic pieces with new, up and coming styles is something that in my opinion defines good taste. Being able to create an outfit with whatever materials you are given is a talent and ultimately, an art form. To me, good taste is up to one's own judgement, and I must agree with the late Mrs. Vreeland's words: too much of it can in fact be boring. The fashion world is one that changes by the minute, so any true fan of fashion is one who is able to appreciate the different looks and objectives by those in the industry.

Imagine yourself stepping out of your apartment onto the streets of New York City. The familiar city smell fills your nostrils as you take a look at your surroundings. You see hundreds of people busily walking by, clad in thousands of different brands. So who of these people has “good taste” in what they are wearing? Is it the gentleman walking by in a Burberry trench, J Crew corduroys and a pair of Uggs; or what about the little girl with her Hello Kitty backpack, Burlington Coat factory brand jacket, and light up sneakers; or maybe the woman to your left walking down the street like it’s a runway in just a plain white tee under a sloppily buttoned sweater and a pair of jeans? For someone to have “good taste” in fashion is to walk with the confidence that they are the best dressed person around, to not care about what is “in” or “out”. To have “good taste” in fashion one must be confident in their appearance and work what they have on no matter how “out of style” it is. “Good taste” is to have the utmost confidence that their outfit is the best out there even if it’s simply a pair of jeans and a tee.

Examplifying "good taste" in fashion can only be accomplished by a designer who has the artistic ability to create a design that can mold to the look of multiple individuals yet stay true to who the designer really is. There is not one specific thing that should be considered "good taste" because it truly means pleasing the model (or consumer), the designer and the eyes of everyone watching.

I don't believe there is a such thing as "good taste" in fashion. There are so many different designers, styles, and ideas of what fashion means to an individual. So many people get caught up in what's "in" for the season, failing to realize it isn't original. Fashion means to make or form something; to mold or construct. Although its display play opponents, fashion executed comes from within a person internally.Anyone can put an outfit together easily and look as if they have "good taste". Its only one problem you can't taste fashion, you have to make it. This is the true essence of fashion, being able to create with no restrictions, limitations, or even to perfection. I believe fashion needs to become 2011, not 80s, groovy, what's back "in", or even futuristic for that matter. We need to create fashion, now, for the present, and for our own generation.

It is the culmination of years of decision-making, the ability to sort through the detritus of pronto moda to find perfectly pitched, inspired classics. It is the anachronistic rebel inside of us that dares to say, “I will not conform.” It is an individual’s ability to distinguish between waifish or unembellished beauty. It is the sense of accomplishment – the breath of fresh air, the taste of fresh water - the cathartics of actualizing a desired self-image. It is the bitterness that ensues in the mouths of others as you walk down the street wearing what was once a coveted leather jacket. It lies within the minutiae and architectural layers of a masterfully constructed wardrobe. It is the difference between light brown and a London tan: a painting by Rothko or an unfinished canvas. It exists in the esoteric space between the runway and those watching. With sophistication and collected equanimity - good taste in fashion is walking the line between perfection and perception.

Fashionistas dripping in this seasons Stella McCartney and the latest Manolo Blahniks are not the only ones with 'good' taste when it comes to fashion. Although Carrie Bradshaw has invoked visions of Saks Fifth Avenue in our little hearts, good taste can only shine from the confidence within us all. Of course, being yourself is important but laughing at the "what was I thinking?!" moments (the time you rocked the ruffled-feather top and the bell-bottom jeans with the utmost confidence) gives any design you're wearing the good taste stamp of approval. The glitz and glamor of being a girl gives everyone the ability to have good taste--the purity that radiates when wearing confidence should be instilled in every young girl of today's society, so one stiletto at a time (okay maybe two at a time, they're hard enough to walk in already!) fashion can make the world a more refreshing place.

"Good Taste" is not what people tell you to wear, it is not what you see in magazines, on models. It's what you are comfortable in, its what you make your own style. everyone has a different style, and a personal style that is just for them and for me if you own your style and work what you wear that is good taste. someone could be wearing a off the runway one of a kind marchesa dress and someone could love it. or someone could go to the four floor forever 21 in NYC buy a $25.00 shirt and be in love with it. "Good Taste" is really your own personal style what you are comfortable in, what you feel good, confident, sexy and proud to be wearing. in fashion you develope your own personal style and liking to clothes, you can't always follow what other people say is the next big thing or the it item to wear because "Good Taste" comes from your own personal sense of fashion. not anyone elses!

"Good taste" is just like the appreciation of refreshing crisp water. Not everyone has it, but everyone has the potential to be it. Feeling comfortable in ones skin and being your own person is what "Good taste" is. Even with fashion, wearing what makes you comfortable and what defines you is what matters most. Trying to be someone your not, just to appear a certain way to the world, will not help you in finding yourself. No one should be ashamed of who they are therefore just being yourself indicates "Good Taste." Wearing the clothes you feel best describe yourself, instead of wearing the latest fashions is the first step. Everyone has the potential of exhibiting "Good Taste," but not every one truly knows how to listen to themselves and express their own personality. Once you figure out how to do this, there will be no stopping you.

“Good Taste” is not about the concept matching clothes meticulously to get the perfect combination of clothing and accessories for the right occasion, nor is it solely about spending insane amounts of money on designer brands deemed "good" by anyone beside yourself. “Good Taste” is about confidence - owning and flaunting what's on your body. Let no one tell you what the difference is between "good taste" and "bad taste" - because opinions will be different between each individual. YOU decide for yourself what "good taste" is; YOU buy the clothes that YOU wear. Since everyone has their own unique taste - which in their mind they think, is "good taste"; the term "good taste" applies to everyone who has a "taste". Therefore, it is impossible to make a distinction between "good taste" and "bad taste". The arbitrary concept of "good taste" is what makes the fashion industry successful. Think about it - if everyone presented fashion that represented only THEIR opinion of "good taste" what would make the New York Fashion Week as well as the fashion industry as a whole interesting?

"Good Taste" in fashion could have a multitude of meanings, but to ME I feel that it means "Personal Style". What ever YOU feel comfortable in, I believe is "Good Taste". I descibe fashion today as an Avant Garde melting pot, everyone's mind thinks differently, allowing those billions of thoughs and likes to match up eventually with others billions of thoughts and likes which is why people choose to buy a particular outfit or shoe. In fashion there is no such thing as "Bad Taste", well with anything there is no such thing as "Bad Taste" personal style and opinion is what excels. Styles will always change and then repeat themselves, but always remember that its someone's own personal opinion that decided to change what will be "hot' for this summer, or spring. In closing "Good Taste" in fashion to me means "Personal Style".

Typically the word fashion pertains to the current popular style, a reference to the current trend with clothing or accessories. Over the years working with various retail establishments like Abercrombie and Fitch and Club Monaco I’ve seen an array of different “current trends”. One thing I’ve learned is that trends fluctuates and is often short-lived. The biggest mistake for me to say when explaining what good taste in fashion means would be to say that it is having a trendy taste. Keeping up with the newest and hottest trends doesn’t necessarily mean you have good taste in fashion. Although it is a factor, it simply means you know how to follow the times well and stay informed, “in the know” as fashion bloggers would put it. When I think good taste in fashion I think of timepieces and I am not referencing watches. Having the ability to make metamorphosize something trendy into timeless. You can wear the funky new stuff but a good taste in fashion allows you to defy the lifespan of fashion codes which change often. Thinking of the a Fashion Icon you don’t think of a person that is up-to-date you think of a person that embodies classic and authentic fashion throughout the years. Fashion is a visual art form just like any other, a person with a good taste uses their senses to communicate their fashion ideas nonverbally but articulately. Creating a forward state to remember years to come.

I believe that fashion is art and art is often up for interpretation. I am a firm believer that good taste is truly dependent on someone’s personal style preferences. To some, the grunge look is still relevant and appealing while others may prefer the classic touches that the preppy look offers. Just as some people prefer Van Gogh to Michelangelo, good taste, in my opinion, is subject to the discretion of the person who chooses to confidently display their personality through their clothing. After all, style is simply showcasing who you are via your clothes & accessories. It’s in good taste to be the best you that you can be; being an authentic version of yourself is always in style and always shows good taste!

I love fashion since so many fashion styles amaze me. Each fashion refers to their cultures, movements and often connects to music. For example, my favorite style “Mods” is a 60’s British movement for teenagers. Actually their style was influenced by a famous rock band called The Who, and they revolted to adult and upper society. They wore tight suits and short pants because they were against wearing the normal way like adults. 70’s punk fashion is also a similar concept that is against the government. Hip Hop fashion is also very powerful because people express their anger with their style. Fashion is not only for being stylish. It is also their identity.

In modern society today, everyone has their own sense of style. Some people would rather be uncomfortable by wearing something they believe is fashionable while others wear what they feel is comfortable and also believe its fashionable. From five inch heels to wearing Urban Outfitters beautifully designed canvas, good taste is all about how you feel. I like to mix it up a bit with my wardrobe. I can go from simple, to girly, and a bit on Rhianna’s rock glam style but I always feel that I have good taste in what I am wearing. Good taste is also about feeling comfortable and confident about the clothes over your shoulder. If you’re sense of good taste in fashion means wearing PINK sweatpants, a Hollister shirt and Uggs, then that is your own idea of good taste. To me, good taste in fashion is wearing what is new this season and matching it or color coordinating my clothes with my shoes or accessories. By wearing the latest trends, looking in the mirror and being okay with my choice, that is all I need to know that I have a good taste in fashion. Confidence is what makes your mind stick to their gut feeling. And in fashion, having good taste is like picking a gift out for someone you care for. You want it to be just right and something that will catch a persons eye. From your hair, to your jacket, pants, and shoes, good taste is in the beholders eye which is you.

What Good taste in fashion means to me is that fashion is; faux fur, it's classic. A go-to timeless,, classic piece attire that enhances any look and will last for last generations and generations. Good taste is that it's a no nonsense piece of art that is comfortable and can be worn no matter the size.

Everyone has their own taste. Relative to food, for instance; some may like sweet, or some may like spicy, whereas the next, might like something a little salty. To me, however, “good taste” is something you crave; something you have to have at that very instant, something that fulfills that feeling of emptiness to satisfy that nagging desire within. Good taste in fashion is more than just an outfit you throw on before you leave the house. Good taste in fashion is that overwhelming feeling of happiness whenever you see, touch, or smell the very thing you’ve longed for. Stimulating every sense with color, structure and quality, tasteful fashion is a textile desire you can simply taste within your soul. A taste so pure and rich, with the ability to cleanse the mind, and flood the body with feelings of joy; tasteful fashion is something that resonates deep inside the body, craving those little things found only in the fashion world.

Trying to define good taste is like trying to define the word normal - it simply cannot be done. Fashion is nothing close to normalcy. Fashion is about creativity, individuality and pure vision. We see this concept come to life each year in Fashion Week. Fashion is beautiful in the sense that it is far from normal. Every piece that comes down the runway during Fashion Week is a new vision from the designer. Designer's collections during Fashion Week are showcasing the very thing that we are trying to define; they are showcasing their vision of 'good taste.' Can 'good taste' be defined? Maybe in a dictionary, but in terms of fashion; never. If 'good taste' was defined in the fashion industry we would have never seen such unique collections over the past couple of decades. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What each person, and designer, in this world defines as 'good taste' in fashion is different. We are all trying to be individual in this world and with fashion we wear the visual expression to fulfill that need for individuality. Designer's jobs each day is to fulfill a certain small group of peoples 'good taste.' Good taste, as defined in the dictionary, is an aesthetic, sociological, economic and anthropological concept that refers to cultural patterns of choice and preference. Good taste, as defined in the fashion industry, will never have a definition. In my eyes, that is an incredible thing and truly exhibits why my love for fashion is so strong.

What does good taste to me means? Hmm, too me it means great ambition determined to show your true colors and feelings, expressing your sexuality. Your body essence, your pure beauty of techniques and comfortable outwear. Good taste don’t have a taste it haves a meaning, and showing of inspiration, the use of the mind to pick and chose and organize. Colorful fabric’s that brings out spirit and joy is “good taste”. Different textures and materials that makes you burst of ideas and excitement creates good taste. Good taste don’t always have to do with style it can also do with your surroundings and your personality. Personality can give you style, encouragement, the courage to express yourself. Fashion don’t have a taste, it haves different out wear different materials, textures, designs, artist. You being yourself brings out your inner fashion, your capability to become the best artist you can be. Good taste in fashion to me is who you are and what you feel inside is your best style.

Having "good taste" in fashion to me means being confident in whatever you wear. Fashion is incredibly diverse as well as personal. "Good taste" applies to whichever market you are designing for and is a case and point situation. “Good taste” is timeless, classic and innovative. There is no level of “good taste” that someone can object to. Believing in the brand that you know and love will show, therefore resulting in “good taste”. New York fashion is beyond “good taste”. Everyone comes together for a week showcasing creativity and expressing their love for all that is fashion. Being selected for this would change everything that I know about fashion for the greater. I am enthusiastic, hardworking and I have what it takes to be in the front row at Fashion Week representing Fiji. I love to spend a week in New York with such a prestigious brand as Fiji. I am eager to learn what exactly defines "good taste" through the eyes of various designers.

Fashion is one of the few metiers in which anything goes. While ready-to-wear designers must keep in mind the realistic saleability of their clothing in order to remain afloat -- particularly in a cost-conscious economy like the one in which we find ourselves today -- it's in the realm of the fashion show where designers can let their fantasies float unfettered. Even when designers' flights of fancy seem completely unrealistic, we can value the ephemeral experiences as art. Performance art. Wearable art. Even totally unwearable art. It's an uplifting moment of theatre that at the very least delivers the message of the designer's seasonal philosophy, and at best, makes such a strong, impactful, remarkable statement that it sells. Sheer cheongsams with nips peeping through? Sure. Caveman unibrows from Galliano? Certainly. We wouldn't wear it out, but down the runway, why not?! Promotions of unhealthy lifestyles is where I draw the line. Heroin is NOT chic. Anorexia is NOT glamorous. Nor is it in good taste. Marc Jacobs' celebration of a healthy bust-and-hips silhouette? Now that's in good taste. And the Fiji logo as an ever-present element at the shows will certainly help deliver that message.

To me "good taste" in fashion is difficult to define, seeing as there are so many different fashionable perspectives and outlooks, meaning that there is no right answer to the question of style. However, without continuity, originality, sense of self, and aesthetic, style and good taste cannot thrive. Fashion is nothing without a clear and distinctive direction. There is no such thing as a fashionista who lives contently in the now, and we all search for the next greatest thing to take us into a new era or vision in fashion, and without a design aesthetic, there is no way for a path of style to form. Of course, along with aesthetic there must come some form of continuity and originality, which go hand in hand. Although fashion is lost without change, every designer has their own way of defining themselves similarly every season, which is what makes fashion broad and identifiable. Were the world of fashion completely defined by trends, there would be no whimsy, intrigue, or sense of self in fashion, each of which must be found in good taste. In the end, good taste will never be more that what you make of it, yet what makes someone into a style icon is the ability to establish meaning in the otherwise directionless world of fashion

Thank you so much for offering such a great opportunity! Fashion represents the essence of individuality, the source of creativity and the mark of freedom. Each person’s distinct “good taste” may differ from one another but the importance relies on those differences. The characteristics distinguish each individual and make them uniquely different. Fashion accepts all daring stylistic choices and encourages creativity, perspective and poise. The art supports diversity and sustains the creative differences between individuals. Fashion is an actuality that allows individuals to experiment with style, to discover individuality, to play with design, to get lost in an art without any consequences. This art is nostalgic like childhood carelessness and freedom where responsibilities do not exist, where identity is constantly changed and altered, and where worries are absent. Fashion is about acceptance of humanity, love of differences and a culture of people. “Good taste” does not refer to rigid structure of existence but instead alludes to the freedom of fashion.
