Derek Blasberg, Editor-at-Large at Style.com and a contributing editor at Harper’s Bazaar magazine, was recently in Los Angeles to promote his new book, Classy: Exceptional Advice for the Very Modern Woman.

Currently on a cross-country promotional tour, Blasberg brought some much-needed advice — gleaned from the world’s deepest, most thought-provoking socialites — to a city awash in velour track suits and Uggs. He found a very receptive audience in Beverly Hills, where, on a warm spring evening, Nicole Richie, Kate Bosworth, and Margherita Missoni hosted an appropriately fabulous party to help him spread the gossipy gospel. A tongue-in-cheek, sure-fire hit, Classy draws on Blasberg’s deep experience in the fashion and social worlds to give ambitious young women the kind of advice they need to succeed without ever sacrificing true style. (Hint: If you’re going to face the press, be sure all the logos you’re wearing are the real thing.)

Starting off with cocktails at the sleek, brand-new Missoni store on Rodeo Drive, the party was enjoyed by a who’s who of the film and fashion world, including actors Patricia Arquette and her husband, Thomas Jayne; socialite Nicky Hilton; event producer and DJ Brent Bolthouse; actor Balthazar Getty and his wife, Rosetta; and other high-profile entertainment personalities.

From there, the party moved to Mr. Chow’s, a long-time fixture on the Los Angeles restaurant scene. Guests such as Shanae Grimes, Malin Akerman, and Charlotte Ronson were treated to champagne and a Thai family-style dinner that included ma mignon, chicken skewers, and XO string beans.
