I love water, and always refer to it as nature's finest. Haven't ordered a soda out a restaurant in years, and always prefer Mother Nature's recommendation to any corn syrup caffeinated drink. FIJI is honestly the most notable brand, and is recognizable through packaging, and a pure taste. Some people find stress unbearable as it hinders their ability to accomplish their work. I, on the other hand, crave the stress and high intensity of the fashion world and use it as a tool to push me to perform well. Especially in fashion, things are done in a very particular way and I settle for nothing less than the best. Unfortunately I have yet to find an opportunity in my current situation as a student in a community college in Northern Virginia, especially fitting to my desire to work in the fashion industry. However, my background in retail has served me well particularly working at Kate Spade. My main duty as a sales associate was to be welcoming to customers and provide outstanding customer service to guests individually. Combined with my vast knowledge of the brand and product I was able to turn over great sales and personal relationships with customers who frequented the store. I am the most fashion savvy person on a budget. I wake up not wondering about the weather or if my hair is perfect its what shoe and bag to wear today and everything else will fall in place. I have already done the whole shibang High school done....college....done and now I'm in the real world working in an office trying to submerge my fashion sense into a gray cubicle. I don't want to be like everyone else. Sometimes I want to be exotic. Sometimes I want to be different. Sometimes I get this feeling that there's something distinct that I need to be able to go on with my day- sometimes it's fashion. Other times it's Fiji. It's like fashion week. On the runway there are no cliches, no banal displays, nothing unoriginal. I first fell in love with the runway in fifth grade. My family had gotten cable for the first time and flipping through our new selection of channels I found The Runway Channel. It was like nothing I had ever seen. The models were all so tall and beautiful with smooth skin and graceful bone structures, the silk gowns flowed as if they were not fabric but rather, Fiji water molecules transcending gravity, and the designers look at the end of the show was one of inextricable pride. At that moment I knew I was destined to be apart of it. I had become addicted. I still am addicted. In my final year at Staten Island Technical High School, I hope to start a new chapter that will help me pursue my dream of holding a career in fashion. Moving 3,000 miles away from all of your loved ones in order to achieve a dream takes courage, hard work, and a tasteful or classy personality. After graduating college with a degree in Marketing I was determined to follow my passion and set my sights on a Master's Degree in Fashion Merchandising and Management from Polimoda, a prestigious Italian school. Within months I traded in my stability for a year in Italy and the unknown. After graduating, I was ready for the next big step and instantly moved to NYC, sight unseen. Although the Big Apple threatened to 'eat me alive' I stayed true to myself and worked hard to get what I came for. I quickly found a boutique management position. It wasn't ideal, but at least it was fashion. I tried my best to offer new and innovative ideas and show my tactfulness to the company, but I was laid-off after only six months of work. Since being laid-off, I have done everything in my ability to try to get my foot back in the door. After interning for free, working freelance and applying to jobs I have been unsuccessful in finding a new and rewarding career. I can honestly say that my time in NYC and within the fashion industry has tested my character and my will to achieve my goals. With that said, I can promise you I have continued to stay an honest and hard worker through out it all. Fashion week is me Fiji, I am 20 years old, I started painting t-shirts on the streets of California, Chicago, Alaska, and etc. I was struggling through hard situations at a young age, and I thought my life was seriously ending, with all the problems occurring. I am a young individual who has pushed through run away, foster care, and almost homeless. I am now blessed to have a private business investor helping me get fully established and ready for the industry. Having worked behind the scenes for a previous Merdedes Benz Fashion Week, I've witnessed first hand the hectic schedule and non-stop action that is involved in the success of one of the world's most prestigious fashion shows. Though I know there is always a chance of failure, I believe that acting as if you can't fail, no matter how many times you do, is what builds a stronger character and is what will eventually get you to your beginning goal or dream. My personal dream, for as long as I can remember, has been to be in the fashion world. When I was a ten year old getting ready to go to camp, i would literally sit down the week before and draw out all the outfits I wanted to wear while at camp. Now, being a graduate from BGSU with a Degree in Apparel Merchandising and a Minor in Marketing, i find myself striving for an entry way to become a retail buyer. I am extremely hard-working, always holding at least two jobs at a time, and I can promise that work ethic would continue all week in NYC. I realize some people think that this opportunity would be neat and fun or some might think it would help them get a job, but I absolutely believe that this opportunity could be the first step towards reaching my DREAM! As a young woman with a passion for fashion and several years experience working as a product educator for a promotions company I believe I am an excellent candidate for the New York Fashion Week internship. I enjoy FIJI Water and know that it is so "much more pure and much more healthier than other bottled waters," this makes the task of informing the fashion shows' participants and guests the importance of FIJI Water in fashion week natural and sincere. From working long retail hours as both a visual intern and associate, while attending school full time I have the drive and determination to do any tasks given to me. Even though it is difficult being a recent college graduate during the recession I have not given up or decided to compromise my goals of being involved in the fashion industry; if anything it has made me work harder to pursue them. Fashion and being healthy rolled up in one week? What more can a girl ask for? I live and breathe this! I won't claim to be the most hardworking or talented individual, but I am definitely tasteful. I think my greatest strength lies in my ability to process and learn. Of course, the ideal candidate should be smart, dependable, professional, but above all, it is someone who is VIBRANT and PASSIONATE. Fashion week is a tough week for all those involved and I predict this year will be no different. I for one will make sure to help Fiji water be known throughout the entire week. I take a sip of my bottle of FIJI Natural Artesian Water and let out a breath of satisfaction: purity. Because FIJI advocates uncompromised and uncontaminated artesian water, its representation during Fashion Week requires the most energetic, assiduous, and natural people at best. I should be one of FIJI's top intern candidates for these reasons. I graduated with a BA Degree in Advertising-Public Relations, so this opportunity would be ideal for someone striving to break into the advertising industry. My personality reflects thriving on stress and intense, stressful situations. Throughout my academic career, I always kept myself consistently active, engaging myself with multiple organizations and taking part in as many diverse experiences as possible. The back-to-back daily schedule is what I live for, the only way I can live. People know me for my energy because I am seen constantly running around as if sleep was never an option. Being assiduous is also a work ethic I advocate. The ideal FIJI Fashion Week intern is expected to be dependable and diligent, executing all tasks that are requested and to solve any problems that are presented. Time is crucial during this event and therefore being hard-working is mandatory. Lastly, interns representing FIJI should exemplify naturalism. This means natural beauty and a natural personality. I would be the ideal intern to represent FIJI because I convey myself as refreshing and natural. My appearance proves I am easily approachable and my natural charisma will be able to speak to guests in the way FIJI would want all representatives to act. I'm fun, outgoing, and an overall dedicated hard worker. I'm the type of person that will do whatever it takes to get the job done successfully. If that means all nighters, bags under the eyes, and broken nails...i'll do it. I love working various events where the stress is at an all time high. I feel that moments like that teach an individual more in a short period of time then a position with no stress over a course of a few months.
